I’ve always had an eye and heart for art. I remember sitting in a small art gallery on Catalina Island when I was younger, while staring and smiling at my favorite works painted by a local artist. So, when I was invited to view Summer Nocturne: Works on Paper from the 1970s and Nam June Paik: TV Clock at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, my heart skipped a beat and I couldn’t contain my excitement.
Stop trying to make everyone happy. You aren’t tequila! Since when did it become selfish to put ourselves and well-being first? I don’t know about you, but I fall victim to prioritizing other peoples’ needs over my own.
One common word that has been consistently popping up in my life lately is, “loyalty.” I’ve proven to be fiercely loyal throughout some extremely intense situations and it’s left me wondering when enough is enough.
Anyways, wide-legged statement pants have been trending since the beginning of last summer, but they’ve made their mark throughout the winter, as well. And, it doesn’t seem like they’ll be leaving us anytime soon. These easy-wear pants bring graceful movement to any girl aiming for classic-meets-modern status.
I’ve been having some deep conversations lately about what I want to accomplish and where I see myself in 5, 10, and/or 15 years from now. It’s a scary thought, but it’s something to consider sooner rather than later.
We all have that vision and expectation. I don’t know about you, but my vision is utterly different now than it was 10 years ago. If you were to ask me where I’d be right now 5 years ago, I’d be married with one of three children. Yeah. That definitely isn’t the case. Currently, I’m nowhere near marriage and even further from children.
Choosing your outfit for work can be so frustrating and monotonous. Do you ever feel like you’re wearing the same thing every day? It’s fun to spice your office wardrobe up a bit in order to add a little excitement to your work flow. I don’t know about you, but when I feel good, I feel more confident and it directly effects my performance.
Personally, I work in the technology industry, so there are a lot of men. The style around the office can be pretty dull and boring, but I love dressing up.
These days, I’m pretty much always in black. I love layering shades of black and black textures together, but sometimes, you have to add a pop of color into the mix. When I’m adding color, it tends to be a jewel tone because they pair so beautifully with black. My personal choice of color is burgundy.
What’s the difference between maroon and burgundy? Maroon is a variant of red, a dark red brown color. It’s created from a combination of the three primary colors red, blue and and yellow. Burgundy is a mored red purplish color, the balance between red and blue has changed to included higher levels of blue, which gives it a purple tint.
Personally, I think it’s fun to mix casual and dressed-up pieces and inject some sparkle into an everyday look. This particular sequined blazer by Rebecca Minkoff is actually meant for a night out of some sort, but every time I’ve worn it, I pair it with distressed jeans or denim shorts, like these Free People shorts that I’m wearing.
Like I mentioned in my recent post, Green Suede and Snake, second layers are the best investment one can make. They’re also the easiest way to give dimension to any outfit, which results in your own piece of art with your own personal aesthetic touch.
I’m a firm believer that fashion is a form of art. It takes a certain eye and skill to create a cohesive ensemble. It might not be considered a fine art, but it’s a decorative or applied art, without a doubt. The same amount of artistic expression goes into an outfit, as it does with a painting.
