Plaid is the New Black

Do you know why I love dresses? I love dresses because they’re easy. They’re easy to throw on and make it seem like you tried extra hard that day. I always get the most compliments when I’m wearing a dress and I can’t help but laugh every time. If they only knew that I was wearing a dress out of pure laziness, they would probably take back their compliment.

I used to hate wearing dresses. My mom used to let me choose what I wanted to wear to school every day in elementary school as long as I promised to wear a dress one day to school. Crazy, right? Sure mom…I’ll just climb this tree in a dress or roller skate in the front yard in a dress. Now, I love wearing dresses! Maybe she always secretly knew my girly side.

Anyways, plaid is always a popular trend during the fall and winter. I decided to spice up this simple dress by adding a pop of plaid to give my outfit a little bit of dimension and depth. I was feeling extra casual, so I decided to slide on some comfortable boots and…WAH-LA…complete outfit. See how easy that was?

Fun fact: Technically, plaid isn’t the pattern’s proper name. That honor goes to the word “tartan,” which was first used to describe the individual colors and patterns used to decorate the clothes of different Scottish clans. Plaid only replaced tartan once the patterns became popular with British and American textile manufacturers who would recreate fabrics that looked like tartans.
