Knapp’s Castle is one of my favorite places in Santa Barbara. Its quiet and it allows the land-roaming souls to find their place amongst the Santa Ynez Mountains. For the few people in California who prefer to turn their back to the ocean in order to gaze at the beautiful mountains, the magic and peace at Knapp’s Castle will have you day-dreaming weeks later.
You’ve probably noticed by now that Knapp’s Castle isn’t like most castles that you see while visiting other countries or in the Disney movies we grew up watching. Nope. Knapp’s is a landmark ruined mansion in the Los Padres National Forest. It’s ridge-top site has a panoramic view of Lake Cachuma (or what’s left of it, at least) and the Santa Ynez Valley. The mansion was destroyed by a forest fire just five weeks after it was built, and now only the massive sandstone foundations, fireplace pillars and walls of the original seven structures remain intact.
The two-piece outfit that I’m wearing is by Lauren Conrad. It’s perfectly romantic and feminine, great for special occasions. I’ve been “Team LC” since high school, and now that I see her fashion line grow and become more and more popular, the more excited I am to see each season’s line. Lauren Conrad sets herself apart from other designers by being true to herself and not knocking off other lines, which is why she’s one of my fashion inspirations. She’s made her romantic, light, and feminine statement by herself.
I go back and forth between dressing edgy or dressing romantic. When I wake up in the morning shunning black, I gravitate towards my Lauren Conrad items. They empower me in a way that an edgy outfit doesn’t. In my opinion, edgy outfits can sometimes come off seeming unapproachable, even when they’re based as “classic.” Romantic outfits seem approachable, sweet, and happy.
